Eureka design show by Hoodzpah - featuring California graphic designers

Eureka: A California Design Story with The Hoods and Friends

Graphic design surrounds us: ads, posters, packaging, magazines, signage, graphs – it’s an intrinsic part of remembering the past, informing the present, and selling the future. Graphic Design reflects, impacts and even changes cultures and societies across the globe. California is no different. Eureka: A California Design Story with The Hoods and Friends honors graphic design movements from the Gold Rush to the present, while chronicling historic and obscure moments from California’s history.  Check out #eurekaexhibit on Instagram to see visitors experience it!

Almost 40 graphic designers from all over the Golden State participated. Each one created a custom design about our state’s past. The pieces are designed in the style of the era they occured in. The works are installed 0n a timeline along an 80 foot wall. Curator notes line the walls around them, annotating the context and design methods of the work. The amazing designers involved have unique backgrounds: from in-house designers at  Adobe, Slack, and Facebook, to successful freelance designers with clients like Disney, Google, Stella Artois and ESPN. The mediums vary as well: from hand drawn designs, to custom lettering masterpieces, to 3D rendered dreamscapes. But enough speculation. See it for yourself! Show runs from December 3, 2017 to February 11, 2018. FREE ADMISSION. (Keep that money for In N Out).

About the Venue

The Great Park Gallery is perched in the Palm Court at the heart of the Great Park in Orange County (just about where the 5 meets the 405. *SNL Californians reference here*). The civic space also features Hangar 244, a 10,000 square foot event center; a shaded outdoor performance plaza enhanced by 54 Canary Islands date palms; and the Great Park’s first site-specific permanent public art installation. There’s a carousel and a 12-story orange balloon that can take you for a ride 400 feet above Orange County (heck yes). A historic property, The Palm Court’s re-purposed military structures now form a cultural campus. The Marine Corps Air Station El Toro’s World War II-era atmosphere and architecture have been preserved by means of adaptive reuse of existing buildings.   Address: 6950 Marine Way, Irvine, CA 92618
