Some inspiration for you on a Friday morning:
Sainsbury’s is a supermarket/grocery chain in the UK dating back to the 1860’s. Apparently it started as a true Romeo and Juliet tale: John and Mary both work at neighboring super market chains. Despite working at different (and I’m going to say “rival” stores – for plot) love prevailed and they got married and started J Sainsbury’s. It’s still around today and is one of the largest supermarket chains in the UK.
I won’t let this ramble on like a recipe from Pinterest: They have a gigantic digitized catalogue of Sainsbury packaging, advertising campaigns, and photographs that is an inspiration goldmine. You can search by decade, product type, anything, and find dozens—if not hundreds—of products from the last century+. It’s the Disney Vault of Supermarket branding and packaging. Definitely bookmark it. It’s a really interesting look at brand consistency on a massive scale of products and how it morphs over the years to keep with the times.
I love the delightful yet practical designs. Even the little disposable deli bags feel so thoughtful.
Here’s a few of my favorites!
