Font FAQs

Does the desktop license cover logo creation?

Yes! If you are creating logos for a third party or client, just be sure to outline the font before delivering to your client (using “Create Outlines,” etc.).

Movie, TV, & Streaming Logos require a Broadcast License if the production has a budget over 14Million or more. Independent films with a budget of below 14Million can use the Desktop license.

Does the desktop license cover t-shirt designs and physical products like album art, etc.?

Yes! Pretty much if it can be printed, it’s covered in the desktop license*. If designing for a client or third party, outline the font (using “create outlines” etc.) if delivering vector files of the design. If your client wants a copy of the font files, direct them to purchase their own license.

*Refer to Section 2a of the Desktop EULA below for exceptions.

How do I know how many “Users” I need to purchase for?

A“user” is a single person or a single machine within a single organization. So total the maximum number of devices the Font will be installed onto and purchase the license that covers that number of users.

I want to use a Font on my Youtube Channel or for a brand video. Does that require a Broadcast license?

No. The Desktop license will cover Vimeo and Youtube (and like streaming sites for personal and brand user uploaded content). Broadcast licenses are for Television, cable TV, feature films, theatrical and cinema releases, and/or internet streaming and on demand content on streaming platforms (including Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, Paramount+, Peacock, and similar platforms).

I want to use a Hoodzpah Font as one of my brand fonts for application in print, decks to email to clients, and on my website. What license do I need?

You’ll need 2 licenses: the desktop license for the print materials and decks for email, and the web license to use the live .woff/.woff2 fonts in your website (via @font-face)

I want to use a font for social media graphics. Which license do I need?

The Desktop license covers this use case.

I want to use a font for a Movie or TV logo (title treatment), what license do I need?

The Broadcast license covers this use case for Major Film, TV, and Streaming titles with a production budget more than $14 Million USD.  1 license covers 1 Title. Independent Film, TV, and Streaming entertainment projects with a production budget under $14 Million USD are covered under the Desktop license.

Font Caching Issues

If you purchased a Hoodzpah font (especially if you already had our trial fonts installed) and you can’t see the full glyph set, you’re probably experiencing a font caching issue. To fix:

Mac:

  • Delete the font from Font Book or whatever font management software you use (Font Xplorer, Suitcase Fusion, etc.). Deactivating it isn’t enough so be sure to delete it.
  • Then restart your Mac holding “shift” key until it displays “Safe Mode” on the screen. This will clear your Mac caches, including your font cache. Then, login to your account and restart the computer again, just regularly.
  • You should be able to reinstall the font and see all the characters.

If that doesn’t work try the following:

  • Close all of your applications.
  • Launch Terminal. (If you don’t know where that is click on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right hand corner of your menu bar, then search “Terminal”)
  • Enter the following command and press Return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
  • Enter the following command and press Return:
    atsutil server -shutdown
  • Enter the following command and press Return:
    atsutil server -ping
  • Click ‘Command + Q’ to quit Terminal then restart your computer.
  • Now reinstall your fonts.

Windows:

  • To clear your font cache on a PC, delete the following file:
    C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT
