For the longest time there weren’t many places for freelance designers to go and work in Orange County, but now that Batch has planted roots in Santa Ana, that’s no longer the case! No more braving fighting for outlets at Starbucks or sitting all sad and alone at your apartment asking your pets for feedback on your latest logo concepts. Now you can sit comfortably in a beautiful space with other creative minds and work happily like you were meant to.
Batch is a coworking space nested in East End on the second floor of the historic Hervey Finley building on 4th and Bush, with a bird’s eye view of beautiful downtown Santa Ana. It’s flanked by delicious eats for foodies (The Playground, The North Left, The Grilled Cheese Spot, etc.) and junkies (two words: street tacos) alike, all within a nice walking distance. No doubt all part of founder, Sarah Armstrong’s master plan. Sarah’s company, A Name Brand Co., is the design mastermind behind some of your favorite Orange County eat/drink spots: The Playground, Bear Coast Coffee,Theorem, The Lunchbox (coming soon). As a freelance designer herself, she saw the void in OC for collab workspaces like the ones so popular in LA. So she did something about it.

The space inside is flooded with natural light thanks to all the windows and skylights – a creative’s paradise. There’s always a nice breeze if the windows are open, but for those summer heatwave days there’s A/C in the building – a KEY thing to note since nothing cramps creativity like an uncomfortable work environment. Well, that and poor internet connection. Did we mention Batch has free Wi-fi?
Designers/entrepreneurs/freelancers can come in and get a spot for the day ($25 – as long as spaces last) or they can join the party train all day er’ry day and nab a permanent desk (part time and full time desks are available for great monthly rates)! There’s a small conference room with white boards for when you need a bit more privacy with clients, or if you like doing your business out from behind closed doors, you can pull a Mr. Rogers and hang with clients in the lounge area equipped with comfy couches, shag rug, and copious amounts of designer reading materials.
Batch regularly hosts coffee service from the man, the myth, Truman Severson (formerly of Portola Coffee Lab), so do it! Swing on by and say “hi” to Sarah and the gang and take part in some legal, addictive stimulates! There’s a paid parking lot nearby, or if you decide to skate or bike in you can store it on the racks inside Batch. Tell Sarah the Hoodlums sent you.
