We’re heading to Charleston for our “Business and Stuff: A Guide for Creatives” Workshop:

The wonderful folks at AIGA Charleston will be bringing us into town for a keynote talk on Friday July 26th, and we’ll be doing our FABAS workshop the following Saturday.

Saturday, July 27th, 2019, we’ll be in Charleston, SC from 9am – 1pm diving into all things business! In this 4 hour workshop we’ll get super transparent on numbers and tactics (showing you our top secret quotes, project presentation decks, and more). We’ll go through the process of starting, running, and optimizing your own creative business through worksheets, take-home resources, a presentation, low-risk/low-cost tips and tricks, personal anecdotes, and 30-45 minutes of open Q&A at the end (so get your specific business questions ready!). We will also be emailing you our own proposal deck template after the workshop to use and abuse as you will!

Presented by Hoodzpah, Inc. and Charleston AIGA

Things we’ll cover:

  • Defining your services
  • Creating a budget
  • Setting your pricing for hourly and flat rate jobs
  • What to include in a contract
  • Promoting yourself / growing your audience
  • Getting clients
  • Pitching a client
  • Presenting proofs
  • Workflow and planning
  • Invoicing and accounting
  • Helpful resources, tools and apps

Saturday, July 27th, 2019
9am – 1pm

Food & Bevvies will be provided for the break at noon!

Students, freelancers, entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, business owners, and non-designers welcome. Feel free to bring a laptop or tablet, and definitely bring something to take notes with. We’ll provide workbooks (plus some goodies and adult beverages). This course is great for anyone who has just started a creative small business (freelance is small business party of one), is interested in starting their own creative business but doesn’t know how to start, or is wanting to do an audit on their creative small business to see how they can improve their systems and procedures. Photographers, motion designers, graphic designers, illustrators, and creatives of all types will benefit. We’re not focusing on any specific creative industry, but rather how to best run your operations.  If you want even more on how to start and run your business, grab our book as an add-on (discounted when you buy with the course) before adding this course to the cart.

What previous attendees thought:

“You provided SO many resources, were so open, and gave far more value than I had ever anticipated.” – Jenna Calando, SF Workshop

“As you would expect, Amy and Jen are not only fun to be around but they are generous in sharing their experience as creatives. This FABAS seminar is perfect for business owners and freelancers who want to jump start their left brain creativity in order to take their right brain meanderings to the next level.” – Randi, RP Creative Group, SF Workshop

“I learned even more than I expected! I finally got answers to so many questions I’ve been asking for years of doing freelance work.” – Anonymous, OKC Workshop
“I was hoping for specific info I could use immediately, and this workshop delivered! You exceeded my expectations with the transparency into your own business. I will be referencing FABAS for years to come.” – Loren Glover, OKC Workshop
“It really exceeded my expectations to be honest. I was concerned it would be mostly irrelevant to me as an established studio, and while the first half was a little basic, we weren’t bored. We were still interested in what you had to say, and there was so much helpful info throughout that we felt fully invested the entire time. I also think that the information you covered at the beginning was really important.” – Tiffany, OKC Workshop
“I went in not knowing what to expect. Amy and Jennifer are super engaging presenters—I felt that through all the mundane info…tasks that creatives dread—they were able to make the business side of freelancing easy to understand and enjoyable to learn about.” – Sarah Pedregon, Austin, TX Workshop

“I really respect the work that Hoodzpah does. Where was your book two years ago when I first started freelancing? It was incredible, and I was surprised at how in depth and helpful it was. I tell EVERY freelancer or wannabe freelancer I know to GET THE DAMN BOOK. You just don’t know what you don’t know.” – Anonymous, Minneapolis Workshop
